As homemade jewelry has increased in popularity, so too has the idea of buying jewelry that is hand crafted rather than mass manufactured. Nowadays, you can find thousands of individuals and small businesses selling their uniquely crafted pieces on Etsy. We have our own favorites of course, and while we haven’t necessarily personally bought items from all of these sellers, just window (or browser) shopping has left us with a deep seated desire for a lot of the pieces.
So we decided to compile a list of our favorite jewelry makers on Etsy. Obviously, this being a gemstone and semi precious stone site, these Etsy shops must make at least some jewelry with gemstones in them. Keep in mind this list is in no particular order – when we sat down to try to decide how they should rank, we basically couldn’t do it, so just know that we love all of them. Also, you should know that none of the links here are affiliate links. We really just love gemstones and gemstone jewelry and want to show our appreciation.
NestPrettyThings is based in Vermont, and their jewelry and other items are a bit bohemian and the best way we can describe their jewelry is that it reminds us of a beautiful spring afternoon. The pieces are fresh and comforting, and they seem to work with a lot of opaque or translucent stones. They also have a bridal store as well as a kids store on Etsy, so there really is something for everyone over at NestPrettyThings on Etsy.
Glamrock’s has great designs of all kinds, but we particularly like their gemstone rings, which feature large cut gemstones that really feature the beauty of the stones themselves. The pieces at Glamrock’s are a little bit edgy, and the rings in particular are bold pieces that really have a lot of spark. We’re big fans of this store, especially since they feature some less well known gemstone types.
The Maimoda store sells simple, classic jewelry with a little island-twist – not surprising as the owner lives in Hawaii. Many of the pieces are elegantly subtle, and in particular they often feature some really incredible pearls. Their designs show off gems with more natural, less intense colors and really manage to bring the stones to life.
This store features a wide variety of mostly more basic designs, and a lot of their jewelry acts as a vessel to feature the gemstones. We being gemstone enthusiasts, obviously are very enamored with this. The jewelry sold in Earthegy has an earthy, almost tribal feel to it, and the great thing about this store is a lot of the jewelry would work for men as well. They also sell raw gemstones for those hobbyists who want to tackle projects themselves.
What makes this store stand out in our opinion is the exquisite metal work. They use recycled metals, and really turn them into special pieces of jewelry. Many of the gemstones they use are cut smaller and we like the subtle, understated designs, a lot of which feature some really extraordinary and intricate metal work. Thanks to their subtlety, the designs at ShopClementine are versatile as well, great for casual as well as more formal settings.
The designs in this store highlight a wide variety of gems and have an almost organic feel to them, almost as if they were carved from the trees and rivers rather than made from metal and stone. The jewelry by Nell Belle Designs gives us a really warm and comforting feeling, and many pieces highlight what we feel are under appreciated gemstones varieties.
lilpengee’s designs have an inherent charm to them, and are cute and understated at the same time. Many of the pieces feature smaller cut, mostly translucent gemstones, and the jewelry comes off as chic without being pretentious. The pieces in lilpengee’s store are great for making a statement without seeking attention.
MadeByKozee is based in Vancouver, and their designs really put the gemstones front and center, and do so with a really nice range of less well known gemstone types like Labradorite, Ammolite, and Pyrite. The store also features some really beautiful, intricate wire wrap designs that are just fantastic. They also seem to sell something called elf ears, which are… erm… interesting. But ignoring that, we definitely appreciate the jewelry designs.
The owner behind BlueStoneRiver is clearly inspired by all things natural, and it really shows in her designs. They sell mostly bracelets, often mixing organic materials like shells and wood with gemstones. The pieces in their store seem very soothing and relaxing, and are perfect for those who want to get back in touch with the earth.
The jewelry in this store is just incredible – fiery and bold but at the same time whimsical and a little antique-ey. Many of the pieces in this store have really intricate designs and put the gemstones front and center, and some of the gemstones they choose are just gorgeous. The owner seems to also be somewhat of a gemstone enthusiast, so we are especially supportive.
There’s something mysterious and very alluring about the way the jewelry in this store looks, and they mostly feature gemstones with more subdued colors. The store often features stacking rings that each feature a different colored gemstone – we’re big fans of this design. KiraFerrer also uses mostly recycled silver,s o you don’t have to worry about the environmental impact.
Much of the jewelry in this store features the gemstones front and center, and we’re especially fans of the wide range of gemstones that are used. We like the bold and clean designs of many of the pieces, and many of the gemstones they use are quite bright and colorful, giving the jewelry a sunny, optimistic quality.
Lastly, we wanted to give special mention to Johnna over at Gemstone & Minerals Diva. She’s not on Etsy as of yet, but she make some really interesting, artisan style custom wire wrapped jewelry, and we’re big fans of hers. If you’re looking for a custom order for a one-off piece, definitely go and check out her page. Also, here’s a link to her pinterest page where she shows off some of her sold items.
